Explanation of How a Transistor Works

In 1988 I telephoned a young physicist who had just graduated from Surrey University and who had just applied to Sussex University to study for a PhD with Harry Kroto (a youngish professor in the Chemistry Department). Little did I know that Jonathan Hare would not only end up working on the project that would win Harry the Nobel Prize (for the discovery of C60) but that he would go on to work as a science communicator and end up working on two BBC OU television series' 'Rough Science' and 'Hollywood Science' .

Jonathan now runs the Creative Science Centre Creative Science Centre and twenty one years later I still have the pleasure of working with Jonathan. Here is a short film explaining how a transistor works that Jonathan produced with the Vega Science Trust. For further videos in the same series visit the Vega Science Trust's website Vega Science Trust
