"University Rovira i Virgili" (URV), Tarragona, Spain
The Semiconductor Devices, Sensors and Microelectronic Design Group studies new materials for micro-sensor systems, designs and fabricates gas pre-concentration units to lower the detection limit, develops advanced signal conditioning and processing methods to improve multi-sensor microsystems performance, designs the read-out signal conditioning and communications circuitry for multisensor systems. Its facilities include a laboratory to obtain nanoparticle semiconductor films onto different substrates and a fully automated measurement rig, which enables a complete characterization of the gas sensing properties of the films under different conditions of humidity and temperature.
The Tarragone group adapts the film deposition methods to get good adherence of the CNT films
onto substrates, studies the gas sensing properties of carbon nanotubes after plasma
functionalisation and the gas sensing properties of hybrid films. In the nano2hybrids project,
URV will design, prepare and test the chemical gas sensors made of the metal nanoparticles
on the CNTs. The entire life cycle will be studied to optimize response time, selectivity
and sensitivity.
