"Service de Chimie Analytique et Chimie des Interfaces" (CHANI), Brussels

The "Service de Chimie Analytique et Chimie des Interfaces" (CHANI) has been involved in the study of the gas-solid and the liquid-solid interfaces for more than 20 years. In the last years, the major objectives focused to understand the fundamental interactions between the different species generated in a plasma with surface, but also to create and develop atmospheric pressure plasmas for fundamental research and industrial applications. The unit is equipped, principally with 7 plasma systems (low pressure DC, RF and DC magnetron, atmospheric pressure DBD chambers), one multitechnique analysis chamber (AES, XPS, ion gun) coupled to a mixed DBD - RF plasma chamber, one AES-(CMA) and LEED chamber coupled to an electrochemical cell.

The CHANI expertise in the synthesis of monodisperse colloids will be of particular use in the present project. Its contribution will cover the activation of the carbon surfaces by atmospheric DBD plasma, both on nanotubes and HOPG graphite surfaces. The atmospheric pressure dielectric barrier discharge plasmas will also be used to deposit the metal clusters either from a colloid solution or using metal salts in solution.
