The Front of the IMN Labs The Institut des Matériaux de Nantes (IMN) is a world class center for nanomaterials synthesis and characterization coupled with a strong theoretical base.

The solid state physics laboratory has worked on nanotubes for several years, notably specializing in nanotube - polymer composites, microwave plasma growth of single- and multi-walled carbon nanotubes at low growth temperatures, and Raman studies of carbon nanotubes.

The "physics of materials and nanostructures" group is expanding its expertise into theoretical modelling of defects, impurities and doping of carbon nanostructures, with new appointments including the recent arrival of Dr Chris Ewels.

The Nano2hybrids IMN contribution, in strong and close collaboration with PCPM, concerns the modelling of the nanotube wall nucleation sites, the study of metallic impurity addition patterns, and of metal surface diffusion.
