Role in nano2hybrids project: production and characterization of plasma treated and metal decorated CNT

E-mail:

Hello !

My name is Alexandre Felten and I’m 26.
I just got my PhD thesis on the 4th of May 2007. Since this date, I’m working on the Nano2hybrids project.
Before that I graduated as a physicist in 2002 and began my PhD thesis in the LISE laboratory in Namur where I worked on the plasma functionalization and metal decoration of carbon nanotubes. Actually the results obtained where very encouraging and were the premises for this Nano2hybrids project.
During this 4 and half year I performed experimental work and used different techniques such as photoelectron spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, scanning transmission x-ray microscopy, plasma treatments,… (If you are interested you can have a look on the pdf file of my thesis.) I also travel quite a lot to do experiments in big facilities called synchrotron. I spend some times at the Advanced Light Source (Berkeley, California) and at Hasylab (Hamburg, Germany).

I hope you will enjoy to watch the videos and read the news on this website !

Synchrotron in the world

Hello !
I am now working for 10 days in a new synchrotron. It is called Bessy II and is located in Berlin, Germany. We are doing some high resolution photoemission spectroscopy on metal nanoparticles/carbon nanotubes material.

I attach a picture of all the synchrotron in the world. Which one you would prefer to go ?
The one in Siberia or in Brazil ? Or maybe the one in Australia

If you want more information on synchrotron you can look on these websites :

metal evaporation day 5

Already Friday !
We will finish to repair the water cooling with Vahit and then in the afternoon i will finally evaporate metal on the carbon nanotubes !

metal evaporation day 4

On thursday the pressure is low enough and we can begin to degas the evaporation cell. We also make a plasma treatment on the nanotubes. At the end of the day we have some problems with the water cooling !

metal evaporation day 3

Wednesday is an easy day.
Basically, we have to stop the heating and wait the chamber to cools down.
